“Cabalgata Histórica” in San Miguel de Allende
The “Cabalgata Histórica,” one of Mexico’s most traditional and unique events, symbolizes the annual kickoff to nationwide celebrations of Mexico’s Independence Day. This historic horseback ride embarks from the city of Querétaro and finishes in our spiritual home of San Miguel de Allende, where the festivities continue and take place over three days.
The journey commemorates the pivotal moment when Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez, a revolutionary in the Mexican War of Independence, informed Miguel Hidalgo, Juan Aldama, and Ignacio Allende, that their plans to ignite a revolution for independence from Spain had been discovered. Soon after that, the Dragones of San Miguel embarked on a journey to officially start the War of Independence with “El Grito de Independencia.”
Inspired by the courage and independent spirit of the legendary Dragones of San Miguel de Allende, Casa Dragones is honored to join in the celebrations. We pay homage to September 16th, 1810 – Mexico’s official Independence Day and the defining moment in our national identity by inscribing the number 16 on all of our bottles.
