Fall-Inspired Signature Cocktails by Three of NYC’s Most Elite Mixologists Aboard The Freedom Yacht
As the mid-October sun slipped behind the west side of Manhattan, Tequila Casa Dragones welcomed guests to the deck of the Freedom yacht, docked at Pier 59 on the Hudson River for an evening of fall-inspired cocktails created and served by three of New York City’s most talented mixologists. Ulysses Vidal, Bar Manager of Employees Only which reached #7 on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2016 list, Adam Baca, the Beverage Director of La Esquina on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, and Alan Wither of The Modern, joined us to showcase the immense versatility of Casa Dragones Blanco by drawing inspiration from the fall season to create and serve their own signature craft cocktails throughout the evening.
In a nod to the onset of fall and to colder weather on the approach, Wither’s cocktail called the Downwind included pear liquor, spiced simple syrup and star anise. Baca’s spicy cocktail aptly named, the Barrio Fuego featured Oaxaca pasilla syrup, fresh lime juice and a rosemary garnish to accentuate the hints of pepper in Casa Dragones Blanco, while the Always Sunny in San Miguel by Vidal, took a sweeter route by using bell pepper cordial and basil as its main ingredients which were balanced out by the semi-sweet notes of agave.
Guests had the unique opportunity to explore the rich history of the Freedom yacht, originally built in 1926 and designed by famed marine architect John Trumpy. The Freedom was officially christened on the 150th anniversary of the United States, and is now a beautifully restored Mathis-Trumpy vessel. She is the sister ship to the USS Sequoia, the presidential yacht designed for President Herbert Hoover, and eventually went on to serve 9 United States presidents throughout her illustrious career.
