Mexico City knows a good art fix. The city’s annual Zona Maco Contemporary Art Fair is a marquee event on the cultural calendar. Held in April with more than 90 international galleries represented, the city’s Distrito Federal is Ground Zero for new and established talents. New artists, especially, are given a chance to showcase on a world stage, with galleries set up for proposals. Focusing on contemporary works from the 20th and 21st centuries, Zona Maco attracts movers and shakers to the already bustling tourist destination for viewings and, of course, parties.
This year Casa Dragones Tequila made appearances at several events, including the “Dark Trees” exhibit by British artist Damien Hirst. Elsewhere at the fair, Zona Maco Sur, curated by Adriano Pedrosa and devoted to solo projects, was just one of many unique showcases. If you couldn’t make it to Mexico City, the annual Zona Maco Monterrey takes place September 2-5 at Hotel Habita in Mexico City.
