Mexico City’s Contemporary Art Fair
Zona Maco, Latin America’s premier contemporary art fair kicked off the first week of February in Mexico City, featuring 120 galleries from 22 countries around the world. Once again, Tequila Casa Dragones took part in many of the fair’s most exciting events, taking a front row seat as the city transformed into an international epicenter of art and design.
The fair began in full swing with the inauguration of Marcel Dzama and Eduardo Sarabia‘s “Campeonato de Guadalajara” at Travesía Cuatro and with Kurimanzutto’s opening of Mexican artist Carlos Amorales’ “El Esplendor Geométrico”. At Kurimanzutto, actor Philippe Eustachon captivated guests with a live performance, while Chef Elena Reygadas delighted with canapés paired with Casa Dragones Blanco on the rocks.
The second night at the fair saw dinner at the famed Contramar restaurant in Colonia Roma, hosted by David Zwirner Gallery and Kurimanzutto. Guests, including Zona Maco founder Zelika Garcia, artist Danh Vo, Enrique Norton, Pepe and Monica Manzutto, Eugenio Lopez, Moises and Rafael Micha, and Patrick Charpenel sipped Casa Dragones while enjoying the restaurant’s infamous Tuna Tostadas among other Mexican dishes.
The following day, ArtSpace celebrated its collaboration with artist Jose Davila with a luncheon prepared by Mexican chef Margarita Carrillo, author of Phaidon’s newly published book,“Mexico: The Cookbook” and featuring a delicious ceviche pairing with Casa Dragones Joven.
Other highlights included Danh Vo’s sensational exhibit at Museo Jumex, Gabriel de la Mora at OMR, Simon Fujiwara at Proyectos Monclova and Julius von Bismarck and Julian Charrière at Berlin gallery, Yayoi Kusama at Victoria Miro and an intimate lunch with Kurimanzutto and Tate to celebrate Carlos Amorales.
Casa Dragones was thrilled to be part of this important, internationally renowned event for Mexico, and we look forward to another spectacular fair next year.
