Chinati Weekend 2018 in Marfa
For the third year, Casa Dragones went west on for the Chinati Weekend 2018 in Marfa starting Friday, Oct. 5. The weekend began with a VIP cocktail party hosted by the Chinati Foundation Board of Directors and Executive Director Jenny Moore in the John Chamberlain building. Guests enjoyed Dragones Rocks, the Stumblebee cocktail, and La Mordida—a blood orange-habanero margarita—while viewing Chamberlain’s famous crushed-car sculptures that filled the space, which is rarely open to the public. Laura Copelin, the freshly minted director of the Ballroom Marfa, toasted with Dragones Rocks. Also during the opening evening, Garza Marfa Showroom presented new drawings by furniture designer Patrick Keesey.
On Saturday, after an open-house-style visit through Chinati property, guests sat down to the Chinati Benefit Dinner in the Judd Arena, where Moore gave the toast over Dragones Rocks, the Stumblebee, and La Mordida. The weekend also featured theater performances by Chinati artist-in-residence Richard Maxwell and a one-night concert by Rosanne Cash on Saturday at the Hotel Saint George. It was our pleasure to attend.
