Mexico, as you may have heard, turned 200 as an independent nation yesterday. It's an anniversary that's often confused with Cinco de Mayo, which celebrates the victory over French forces in the Battle of Puebla, not Mexican independence.
It just so happens that one of the best tequilas that we've ever tried is named after the forces that liberated Mexico all those years ago. It's called Casa Dragones, and it was created by Bertha Gonzalez, pictured above.
"The name," she explains, "is inspired by the courage and independent spirit of the Dragones cavalry of San Miguel de Allende—the group that sparked the Mexican independence movement of 1810." So raise a glass to those brave men this weekend. As if you needed an excuse.
