A Weekend in San Miguel de Allende for MAG
July 13-15, Casa Dragones spent the weekend celebrating the Mercardo de Arte & Gastronomía (MAG) Festival in San Miguel de Allende. To kick it all off Friday evening, Casa Dragones hosted a Pairing Table dinner by Mexico City–based chefs Norma Listman and Saqib Keval of Masala y Maíz at La Casa Dragones. The exciting 8-course meal paired with Casa Dragones Joven honored artist, activist, and sculptor Pedro Reyes, whose special edition bottle of Casa Dragones Joven launched that weekend.
This special edition bottle—the third special edition artist collaboration for Casa Dragones—is based on Reyes’s 2016 volcanic rock sculpture “Epicuro” and explores the traditional Mexican technique of pepita hand-engraving. Saturday morning, Casa Dragones cofounder and CEO Bertha González Nieves and Reyes invited VIPs and press for a Fireside Chat, where Reyes shared his inspiration behind the bottle and wound up musing about philosophy and slowness—highlighting the importance of craftsmanship in the creative process.
Also during the weekend, sommelier and tequila expert Sandra Fernández hosted VIPs for a one-hour tasting of Casa Dragones Joven in The Tasting Room; Michelin-starred chef Reylon Agustin paired a five-course dinner with Casa Dragones Joven at Rosewood; chef Justin Smilie, of New York and Miami–based Upland fame, served an intimate paired dinner at L’Otel; and at MAG’s main fair in Parque Juarez, director of beverage for hospitality group Levain & Co. Adrian Evans and team spent all Friday and Saturday serving up elaborate custom Casa Dragones Bloody Marias for anyone needing a little daytime refresher.
