Casa Dragones Joven, an Inspiration in a Bottle
The Guggenheim gala on Thursday coincided with the opening of a new installation by the Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco at the museum.
Last year, Mr. Orozco had a retrospective tour at the Museum of Modern Art; Kunstmuseum in Basel, Switzerland; the Tate Modern in London and the Centre Pompidou. In honor of that retrospective, he collaborated on a limited edition bottle of Casa Dragones Tequila, a brand that accompanied him on his world-wide excursions. Each of the 400 bottles produced is engraved with Mr. Orozco's "Black Kites" motif, a human skull in a checkerboard pattern. Typically a bottle of the tequila is $275; the limited edition will be $1,850, with 200 available for the Mexican market and 200 for the international market.
"This is not a traditional artist brand collaboration," said Bertha González Nieves, the co-founder of Casa Dragones. "It's a result of us spending time together. He's exported a very contemporary and interesting side of Mexico, and we're trying to do the same thing."
Ms. Gonzales Nieves said she expects the available bottles to sell out.
